Spicy Isso Wade

Whenever I think of the Galle Face Green, the first thing that comes to mind is the smell of spicy Isso Wade frying in the breeze. These crunchy lentil patties topped with whole prawns are the ultimate seaside snack. Let’s bring those beach vibes home!


Ingredients

  • 1 cup Dhal (Paripu), soaked and coarsely ground

  • 3-4 whole Prawns (with shells on) per wade

  • Chopped onions, green chilies, and curry leaves

  • Chili flakes and salt

  • Oil for deep frying


Method

  1. Mix the ground dhal with onions, chilies, curry leaves, and spices.

  2. Shape into small flat patties.

  3. Press 2 or 3 prawns firmly onto the top of each patty.

  4. Deep fry in hot oil until the dhal is golden brown and the prawns are bright orange and crispy.
